National Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference

The first conference was held in Melbourne in 2003 and a conference has been held every year since.

The aim of the conference is to disseminate the latest scientific and practical information about rescue, rehabilitation and release of Australian native fauna. These animals have suffered mishaps due to injury, illness or interaction with humans. Most injuries are due to vehicle strikes; dog, cat and human attacks, habitat loss and natural disasters such as fire and flood.

In each Australian state and territory there are individuals and groups dedicated to the rehabilitation of native animals. This conference provides a forum for learning and networking.

The conference has previously been held in Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Darwin and Perth.

The NWRC has a commitment to the formation of a national peak body for the benefit of wildlife carers around the country. This is coming together slowly as each state and territory forms its own wildlife council.
